The Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC), the state-owned enterprise which had successfully developed Nusa Dua as a tourism area, this year again proudly hosts the Nusa Dua Fiesta 2010 with the theme “Green Tourism”. Starting in 1996 as a medium to promote the Nusa Dua area to both domestic and foreign markets, BTDC together with the hotels and businesses in the area held its first successful Nusa Dua Festival, which, following remarkable success and positive responses from the markets and clients, in 2007 changed its name to Nusa Dua Fiesta. This year, the Nusa Dua Fiesta 2010, to be held in Nusa Dua Peninsula from 15 to 19 October 2010, will once again feature exhibitions, performing arts, cultural attractions, sports, music, exhibition and fun games with the environmental theme “Green Tourism”, reminding us of the importance of environmental conservation for the sustainability of tourism in Bali. The site of the Fiesta itself will feature breathtaking 15 metres water blown waves breaking against the steep cliffs, which will provide for a very dramatic background. The green theme will highlight activities such as sport, fun games, exhibition and cultural attractions from the provinces of Bali and other regions in Indonesia, as well as exhibitions of various handicrafts from different regions in Indonesia. The “Green Camp” programme will involve schoolchildren and aims to raise their awareness about their own environments as early as possible through beach clean up along the beaches of Nusa Dua, knowledge about eco-tourism, concern for plastic waste, planting coral reefs, and activities to realize a long-term “One Man One Tree” national goal and sports activities that will run in conjunction with the Bali International Sports Week. The Bali International Sports Week will feature several kinds of sports such as wood ball, beach volleyball, billiards, cricket, golf tournament and the Bali International Marathon. For arts and cultural performances, Nusa Dua Fiesta 2010 this year will be enlivened by the colossal dancing of Kebo Iwa and Princesses Nyale of Lombok, and will also feature performances from foreign countries such as the International Dance Performance from India and Japan, and no less interesting is the Belly Dance Performance. “The Nusa Dua Fiesta will be different this year than in years past. This time, the Nusa Dua Fiesta 2010 will feature the Culinary Exchange 2010 event, which will be followed by chefs within Indonesia. Visitors to the Nusa Dua Fiesta, especially foreign visitors, will be able to see directly the cooking demonstration on traditional Balinese menu, an event that will boost the awareness of the Balinese traditional cooking among international tourists,” said Drs. IGK Purnaya, the General Chairman of the Nusa Dua Fiesta 2010.

When the inauguration of Kuta Karnival committee which involves many components ranging from elements of tourism, government, private, voluntary until the TNI, Morgan explains about the history of the birth of this important celebration. Using the Coca-Cola ISC Women's Division competition as the basis for the event, the exuberant crew at Surfer Girl created darn near 24 hours of activity around it, turning out a very big "first time ever all girls surfing event" at the most popular and world renown beach this side of the planet….on Kuta Beach

Starting with the press conference at the Hard Rock Café on Saturday night, then hosting a whole lot of action down at Halfways on Kuta Beach. In addition to the "My First Ever" surf contest, the bodyboard contest, the Coca-Cola ISC Tour Women's contest, and a Dad-Daughter tandem contest, there were tons of other interesting activities going on all along the beach including ice-skating, horizontal bungee, water cannons, dance competitions, a nail & beauty booth, beach volleyball, beach soccer, and more.

And when the sunset a different kind of fun began, with Surfer Girl fashion shows, a lot of dancing from various groups, a kid's charity band, and then the awards presentation. From 10 to 14 October 2008, the Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) is again holding the annual Nusa Dua Fiesta at the Peninsula, Nusa Dua, Bali, the same venue that hosted the Climate Change conference in December 2007, which was attended by thousands of delegates from around the world.

Following up on the Climate Change conference, and as a reminder that the tourism industry depends greatly on a clean environment to enable economic growth, the theme for this year's Fiesta is "Green Tourism".

This theme inspires the many artistic, cultural, music and sports events, exhibitions, and fun games that will continue throughout the Fiesta. The Green Culture Parade will feature all the Fiesta's sponsors, promoting the best from their respective regions and encouraging environmental awareness.

The Nusa Dua Fiesta will also conduct a series of environmental awareness programs, such as the Green Camp, in which visitors will try to eliminate plastic garbage from the Nusa Dua area, and quizzes and games on the themes of handling of solid trash and preventing dengue fever. The Smart Nature program will publicize better ways to handle household garbage through direct assistance and evaluations at schools. The Active to Clean program will gather plastic waste from the environment and provide venues for processing household waste.

"The Green Tourism theme for this year's Nusa Dua Fiesta demonstrates that the BTDC is the first region to receive Green Globe Award certification. The BTDC is also promoting the diverse range of arts and culture found in Indonesia and strengthening good relations amongst the many stakeholders in the tourism industry," says BTDC's President Director I Made Mandra.

Exciting competitions such as Sand Sculpture, Fruit & Vegetables, Photography, Painting, Karaoke, Golf and Aerobics will enliven the Fiesta, with attractive prizes as well. The Fiesta will conclude with a concert featuring the country music of Tantowi Yahya, a cabaret show, and Padma Nareswari, produced by Guruh Soekarno Putra.

Nusa Dua is recognized as an elite tourism area and has received many awards. Since 1996, the BTDC has held an annual festival featuring arts, culture, sports, music and exhibitions supported by all components of the local community, calle

Sanur Village Festival 2008

It originated from a few minds and the desire to increase the image of Sanur as one of the prominent tourism destinations in Bali . After a brainstorming session, members of the Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur concluded with a yearly event to bring the Sanur tourism community and the local community together through a week-long event dedicated to increase the cultural aspects of the area. It’s back again for its third year after two very successful previous years. This fun and cultural events festival highlighting Balinese art and cultural performances will be this year around the area of the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel on Jl Pantai Segara. But, it’s not only art and culture performances that will be the highlight.

There will also be a food bazaar, bonsai and orchid exhibition, contemporary music performances and for the fashion aficionado, a delightful fashion show. Of course there are numerous other activities sure to please all during this five day event. As with the same last year, there will be an international cartoon exhibition, and the popular jukung festival of local village boats. Naturally the music festival will no doubt draw big crowds to the beach and all in all, this promises to be the greatest festival up until now.

The kids are never left out of the activities and the kite festival will delight them and no doubt all the adults as well. One part of the festival that I am looking forward to seeing is the photo contest. The theme for the photos have to be centred around the Sanur area and prizes are up for grabs.

This is one festival in Bali not to be missed if you are over on the island at the beginning of August. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

The Third Sanur Village Festival will take place August 6 - 10, 2008 . As in past celebrations, this year's Sanur Village Festival will maintain its focus on the area surrounding the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel on Jalan Pantai Segara in Bali's historical Sanur district. And, as with previous festivals, visitors will be spoilt for choices of activities from which to choose during the 5 day event. Back on the schedule again are the jukung festival of local village boats, a music festival, an international cartoon exhibition, and an almost continual food festival throughout each day of the festival. Organizers have promised new and exciting activities to enliven the third running of the Sanur Village Festival.

Chairman of the Sanur Village Festival, I.B. Sidharta Putra, is very enthusiastic at the prospects for fun and entertainment on offer at this year's festival.

Sidharta said: "I can't believe at how fast time flies, and here we are getting ready for the third Sanur Village Festival. This year's celebration will take place on August 6-10, at the area of the Inna Grand Bali Beach. For sure in this third year, we are now more equipped, and more prepared to entertain everyone with our variety of shows we have coming up on the colorful agenda. This year, we will still have a kite festival, an international cartoon exhibition, beach and water related activities, and great musical performances focusing on the genre of Jazz crossover. Also, for those who have witnessed and experienced our food festivals in last years' festivities will surely miss the delicacies Sanur has to offer. I can't wait to see all of you back at the one and only Sanur Village Festival."

Education is being flouted for flowers in the North Sulawesi mayoralty of Tomohon -- a city with many universities -- by its mayor, who wants those with aspirations to be civil servants to consider being flower farmers instead. The flora has become the official icon for the city -- originally famed for its higher education institutions -- and is being aggressively promoted by its major, Jefferson Rumajar. He believes flowers could be used to build job opportunities to boost the welfare of its 86,000-strong population. Local opinion is that using flowers as the city's new icon will not necessarily mean Tomohon's reputation as a "city of education" will be replaced; rather, that both flowers and education can still live side by side and even complement each other. Tomohon is a new city established in 2003, and was previously one of the districts in the Minahasa regency. Rumajar is Tomohon's first mayor, chosen through direct election. He was installed as the mayor on Aug. 4, 2005 by acting North Sulawesi Governor Lucky Korah. Rumajar is confident Tomohon's location is very suitable for flower cultivation, and wants to turn the city into a major flower producer in Indonesia. His decision to focus on flower cultivation was based on the fact that nearly 70 percent of the local population depends on agriculture as their source of income, Rumajar said. He challenges a large number of job seekers in Tomohon to change their way of thinking -- by becoming flower farmers instead of vying for sought-after opportunities as civil servants. "Cultivating flowers is very profitable because farmers can reap approximately Rp 200 million (US$22,200) from each hectare of krisan flowers within three months," Rumajar said. Each flower sells at about Rp 3,000 on the market. By comparison, he said, planting corn can yield eight tons after approximately the same period. "If each kilogram of corn is valued at Rp 2,000, they can only get Rp 16 million," he said. "Aside from the suitable climate, we don't need additional areas as we can utilize unproductive lands, which are estimated to reach about 900 hectares at present," the mayor said. Tomohon alone has not yet been able to meet the rising demand for flowers in the province, as large amounts have to be shipped from Java. In the future, Tomohon will be able to supply all local needs and export the product to other countries, he said. The festival needed more than 14 million flowers, not only for the decorations but also for parade. More than 46 vehicles participated, they came from any regions such as Jakarta, Banda Aceh, Mataram and others. Each vehicle needs more than 20.000-25.000 flowers. During festival, there were many events were held as well, such as exhibition, fotografi, cuisine festival, and many more. TFF will be arranged as permanent agenda by as local government. Using this festival, more tourists can be attracted to visit Tomohon
